Welcome from Settlement Workers Heidi Liu and Sandhya Shanker

clip image002

You must all be wondering what SWIS means and stands for. Well, SWIS stands for Settlement Workers in Schools. Our local SWIS is a program funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada in partnership with New Canadians’ Centre of Excellence Inc. (NCCE Inc.) and the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB)

We, NCCE Inc. Settlement Workers assist newcomer students and their families settle and integrate in their school and community environment by providing information and referrals to other agencies, schools and community services. We also speak many different languages so we can help teachers and newcomers communicate with each other.

Although Settlement Workers focus their outreach on newcomer parents and youth who are in their first years in Canada, services are provided to all parents regardless of immigration category.

We eagerly look forward to assist all the students, parents and teachers here at Eastwood Public School!

Please make an appointment or walk in to meet your NCCE Inc. Settlement Workers:

Sandhya Shanker on Wednesdays and Heidi Liu on Tuesdays
