Saturday, March 26th teachers, students and parents joined at Indigo Lakeshore to entertain, sell baked goods, read and talk about learning and school. The day culminated a month of fund-raising at Indigo Lakeshore. During the month of March all staff were dedicated to raising Love of Reading donations that directly supported Eastwood’s diverse reading program needs.
The grand total after the month was incredible!
Donations were collected at the kiosk, during two bake sales and through raffling off a donated hand-made artistic bird house. Special thanks go to everybody that helped the cause from the Indigo sales personnel and management staff, to the teachers that made baked goods and donated time and money. Our great partnership came by the way of a grant proposal for the Canadian wide Love of Reading Grant through Indigo/Chapters.
During the final event many teachers donned their “I’m a TEACHER ask me about LEARNING” shirts and were available for talking and reading. Some teachers read to a group of children and many kids made arts and crafts about story. The Eastwood Band played theme songs and entertained the many parents who came out to support their children and the school! It was a great day and event.
Cross your fingers that we will be succesful in our bid to become Essex County’s first official Love Of Reading school! We will find out in June!
