Terry Fox Run a Success!

Our School Community raised over 200 dollars yesterday during our Terry Fox National Run!
Way to go members of Eastwood. The Eagles soared around the track and ended up in the middle of the field doing a giant wave and then dancing Gangham Style!

Have an awesome weekend! Thanks to all participants and planners for a safe and fun event.

Toonies for Terry Fox!

Thursday, September 27th, 2012 is national Terry Fox Day.

If you would like to support cancer research please send your toonie with your child to Eastwood school tomorrow.

Our students will engage in a fun run that has an age appropriate distance and route. We will finish on the track at 2:30 pm. We will have stations and with full supervision. We believe that our larger community will see excited and energetic students that represent Eastwood in positive and polite ways. This fun run is a great opportunity!

Please send your students with the appropriate footwear and clothing for our fun.

Each student will receive a banana after the run.

Thanks everyone!

Peanut Safe Schools

This is a friendly reminder to our school community that we are a peanut safe school. We recognize that it is not possible to be entirely peanut free as these products are in so much of the food that we consume everyday. We would like to take as many precautions as possible to keep Eastwood Peanut safe.

What does this mean?

  • We ask parents to please not pack peanut products in lunches
  • If food is brought for class consumption we ask that peanut products not enter the building
  • If your child has peanut allergies please alert the office with documentation of the allergy
  • Every year our staff undergoes EPI Pen training

Please help us in making Eastwood as safe as possible for all students.

Meet The Teacher

Dear Parents of Eastwood Eagles,

Please accept my apology for any inconvenience the cancellation may have caused. If you have an issue or concern regarding your child that you feel requires a personal conversation you can arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher by calling us at your convenience.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Director Kennedy’s Message to Our GECDSB Community

It is my hope and expectation that we will continue to focus all our efforts clearly on students during this current period of labour uncertainty. Bill 115, the Putting Students First Act, has been passed by the Ontario Legislature and we are awaiting information on the implementation of the legislation.

What I can say with certainty is that we will continue to negotiate, in good faith, with the various bargainning groups to resolve outstanding local issues. We will also continue regular communication with the representatives from the federations and unions. The relationships we have worked hard to develop and maintain remain strong and I believe that will be of great benefit to us all now and over time.

I want to assure everyone in our school communities that we will do everything within our means to continue delivering excellence in our classrooms and at the many venues where our students receive the supplemental lessons of sportsmanship and citizenship that are critical to a complete education.

Ours is an honourable occupation and I implore everyone not to be distracted by the incidental, yet important concerns.

I am inspired by the extent and sincerity of effort everyone in the Greater Essex County District School Board makes to effect student success. Every day I see examples of how our work is making a difference in the lives of the young people in Windsor and Essex County, and I am proud to lead this great organization.

Education is arguably the most essential element in society’s collective aspiration for peace and understanding. The evidence is all around us. Students have such power and potential to be effective agents of change, given proper guidance and inspiration from caring adults. Our obligation, as leaders and role models, is to trust our ability to release their capability and show faith in their judgement.

I must acknowledge my team of extraordinary superintendents and administrators who not only provide tremendous leadership, but continuously make us all better by challenging accepted thinking with new and exciting ideas.

Parents, of course, also deserve our gratitude for the  vital contribution they make to their children’s education and  we appreciate their efforts to make and keep us accountable.

Together we will continue to strive for success for every student.

Welcome New Teachers!

Monday, September 17, 2012

Dear Eastwood Kindergarten Parents/Guardians:

During the first two weeks of every school year, the Greater Essex County District School Board undergoes some minor reorganization as a response to either increased or decreased enrolment. Our specific situation at Eastwood is such that we will be increasing our teaching compliment due to an increase in student enrolment in Early Years division. We have so many new students that we get to open a third Full Day, Early Learning Kindergarten classroom! We thought this might happen and we feel so fortunate. We were prepared to make this positive change!

We would first like to bid a welcome to Mrs. Pickersgill who will join Mrs. Ables in our new room. We would also like to bid welcome to Mrs. Labbe (La-Bay) who will join Mrs. Fallon as an Early Childhood Educator. We also would like to welcome Mrs. Wakeman who will join us as a full time teacher! Congratulations everyone.
